The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in collaboration with its agency, the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, is proud to have secured the inscription for 17th Century Port Royal, Jamaica, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a historic first for Jamaica’s underwater heritage! 🏛️🌊

This milestone is the result of years of research, collaboration, and cultural advocacy to preserve and showcase one of the most iconic submerged cities in the world — once known as the “Wickedest City on Earth.”

From archaeological surveys to community engagement and international consultations, JNHT has worked tirelessly to ensure that this treasure of Jamaican and global history receives the recognition it deserves.
