This year marks the 325th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that destroyed Port Royal. In this regard, the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) will be staging its annual Port Royal Earthquake Awareness Day on June 7, 2017 at Fort Charles, Port Royal at 10 a.m.  This year’s theme is “Remembering the Past; Port Royal Earthquake 325 Years Later.”

We are inviting you and to participate in this activity which we believe, is an excellent opportunity to expose members of the public to an important event in our history and to help them prepare for natural disasters in particular, earthquake.  The entry fee is $100 for students and $200 for teachers and adults.

The day’s activities will include presentation on the history of Port Royal, a mini cinema showing a documentary of Port Royal, tour of the Fort and St. Peters Church and exhibition of other artefacts that came from under the sea. There will also be lots of giveaways which includes simulated archaeological digs.
