Culture Ministry Pays Tribute to Dr Thompson Gordon.pdf

The Minister of Youth and Culture, the Honourable Lisa Hanna is expressing sadness at the passing of former Executive Director of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), Dr Clover Thompson Gordon, OD, JP. In a statement the Minister described Dr Thompson Gordon as a master educator and an astute leader who contributed enormously to the socio-cultural development of the Jamaican society.

“One of her most valuable cultural contributions was to the buttressing of community volunteerism which begun in the 1960s. Her stint at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission as Executive Director played a pivotal role in the strengthening of island wide cultural volunteerism which continues to support the work of the Commission. Her distinguished service to institutional strengthening of the programmes of the Commission has left a heritage that is invaluable.” the Minister said.

The Minister noted that Dr Thompson Gordon extended herself beyond the call of duty to help build and enrich the lives of many Jamaicans.

“With an unbridled love and unquenchable passion for culture and education she fervently served with distinction in efforts to help transform Jamaica. Our nation has lost a distinguished educator and a visionary icon of service who contributed greatly to the retention and continuation of Jamaica’s cultural legacy.” Minister Hanna added.

The Minister has expressed condolence to the family of Dr Clover Thompson Gordon on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mrs O’Reggio Angus and members of staff of the Ministry of Youth and Culture. She has also conveyed appreciation on behalf of the JCDC for Dr Thompson Gordon’s sterling contribution to cultural development.
